About Industria Education

Industria’s education team puts the student’s interests at Place 1. As a team, we are committed every day to making your student career as smooth as possible. You can look at Industria Education as a bridge between students and Campus Group T.

Our two main goals are student representation and ensuring educational quality. We try to achieve this by participating in all kinds of meetings with lecturers and organising PAL sessions, Industriawijs and the student survey. So you can see us as the bridge between students and lecturers.

If you wish to contact us, please send an e-mail to education@industria.be or drop by our office on module 4.

What We Do!

Every year, the education team puts on innovative events to improve the quality of student life in Group T. These range from Industriwijs, Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) sessions to open education meetings. We also organise Group T’s annual Oscars – The Golden T’s.

As always, we try to push our creative boundaries to organise engaging and insightful events for students.
One of our crucial functions is to collect feedback from students and pass it on to the respective education committee to improve the academic experience and quality on campus.

This gives the education team a unique vantage point to actively participate in the internal workings and decision-making processes of the campus and even the university. We also work closely with umbrella organisations such as StII and STURA, the faculty student body and the university-wide student body.

You can also find all information important to your student career on the Toledo page of Industria Education.

How are you represented?

At first glance, the structure of KU Leuven may seem very complicated. Therefore, with the message below we try to clarify this a bit, so that you as a student know how you are represented. The important thing is that at least 1 student from the faculty sits on each of the bodies below.

Industria Education

Industria Education replaces the old Group T Student Council and is responsible for student representation at the local level. Industria Education sits on local OCs and consults with the campus president and CDE.

StII

All student councils of the various campuses of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering (FIIW) gather in a faculty consultative body (FO), Student Consultation Industrial Engineering (StII).

StII deals with matters that transcend the campus level of FIIW. This is done at both internal and external levels. During the internal meetings of this body, consensus is sought on the dossiers that emerge from the campuses. In this way, StII comes to the various external meetings with a faculty-wide opinion. These external meetings occur at two levels: the faculty level and the student work at the KU Leuven level.

From StII, members are elected to sit in some meetings at the faculty level. These are the POCs, the fPOC, the Faculty Council and the Faculty Board. Furthermore, StII can also consult with the deanery of the FIIW. Besides the faculty meetings, we as students FIIW also get 6 votes at the KU Leuven Student Council (Stura). This vote count is based on our student numbers.

Stura (Student Council KU Leuven)

Stura is the student council that represents all students at KU Leuven and sits on the university’s highest bodies.

LOKO (Leuven student organisation)

Whereas Stura is responsible for education-related matters, LOKO deals with Leuven’s student life and everything that goes with it. Thus LOKO has a say in Acco, Alma, Velo, … LOKO also consults with the city of Leuven.

OC (Education Committee)

An OC is set up per programme or part of a programme on each campus. This OC consists of all lecturers with a teaching assignment in the programme concerned and of student representatives. The student representatives must be enrolled in the campus and in the programme for which the OC is competent. So you do not have to be a member of Industria Education to sit in an OC.

The OC is a kind of control system in which students and faculty can jointly evaluate the subjects within that OC. The meeting usually takes place once a month. Specifically, the OC aims to monitor the local vision of education, the curriculum and didactic form of the programme and pass on advice to the POC.

COB (Campus Education Bureau)

There is an umbrella body per campus, called the Campus Education Bureau (COB), which includes every OC from the respective campus. The COB collects the info from the various OCs but mainly deals with education-related matters relevant to the entire campus. Furthermore, the COB deals with the effects of any reforms on campus.

POC (Permanent Education Committee).

Since the courses on the different campuses of FIIW are not completely the same, a POC is set up for each line of learning within the faculty. This assembly deals with that specific line of study at faculty level and does so by taking into account the different groups affected by that line of study. Student representatives also sit here. Student representatives should be members of the respective OC on their campus and are nominated by students from the OCs concerned. Ideally, these student representatives should also be members of STII. The POC meets at least four times a year.

The POC is responsible for designing the frame of reference in the field of education for the whole curriculum and passing on the curriculum and didactic format based on the OC’s recommendations to the fPOC as an advisory body.

fPOC (Faculty Permanent Education Committee)

The fPOC coordinates all divisions of the faculty. It is responsible for the educational programmes, quality assurance of education and stimulating educational innovation. It does this by coordinating and integrating the advice obtained from the POCs. The fPOC meets at least four times a year.Faculty Board

The Faculty Board is responsible for FIIW’s education. It organises and monitors its quality. This in terms of profiling, practical organisation, educational offerings, etc. The Faculty Board also determines the mission, composition and functioning of the POCs and thus coordinates educational evaluations. It is also responsible for feedback to the Group Management regarding education at FIIW.The Faculty Board is responsible for the distribution of funds allocated to the faculty and prepares a faculty budget. It is also responsible for alumni work, social functioning, contacts with industry, … As a final task, the Faculty Board prepares the Faculty Council. The Faculty Board can be seen as the “government of the faculty”.

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is a governing body that appoints the dean and approves or does not approve the policies of the faculty board. On the proposal of the dean, the Faculty Council ratifies the appointment of the vice dean and programme directors; advises, at the request of the dean, on agenda items to be brought to the Group Board; determines the composition of faculty examination committees. The Faculty Council can be seen as the “parliament of the faculty”.

Higher bodies

The consultative bodies above the faculty level are the responsibility of Stura. They ensure that students’ interests are safeguarded even at the highest level.Industria Education can help set policy through StII in Stura’s General Assembly.

Our vision

Industria Education aims to play a more active role in decision-making at Group T, ensuring that all students from the diverse student community here get the support they need to excel. In doing so, we are always looking for motivated students who want to have a direct say in education at Group T. In the coming years, we also look forward to bringing a plethora of exciting events.
